Heritage Volunteers The Group has been working at Boughton House, the Northamptonshire home of the Duke of Buccleuch, for the last five years. We originally began work in the private library, cleaning and repairing the collection of mainly 18th century books. We then moved onto cleaning books and archives in another part of the House. We are currently working on the Music Collection and are based in the new Archive Centre at the House. Again we are cleaning and repairing the books and manuscripts. We have also just taken on a new project which involves transcribing the hundreds of letters of Charlotte Anne, 3rd Duchess of Buccleugh, onto the computer. This is a rather challenging project because apart from her extremely difficult handwriting, we need to remember her abbreviations and the names of her houses and household. As yet we are still undergoing training, but this promises to be a very interesting project of use later to researchers into 19th century social history. Rita Kelly, February 2020
